Are You Offering the Right Services? Let's Chat with Rashida McKenzie

When you first start a business, ideas for the products and services may come to you easily. But, when you first start a business, it’s also common that you want to do it all and suddenly, you may find yourself delivering on all the products and services that have you (and your team) being pulled in a million different directions.

On top of this, it’s also important to evaluate what products and services are right for your business! Do they bring you joy? Are they aligned with your business goals? Are they what your audience wants? Are they priced right?

Cue: Rashida McKenzie, a business and life strategist who works with highly ambitious women to help them achieve personal and professional success without sacrificing their sanity, serenity, or their self. She’s also an incredible author of the book Give Yourself Grace, Girl! — a book for female entrepreneurs ready to release perfection & reclaim their power.

I have worked with Rashida previously to get clarity on the services that I offer here at JDP Consult Co. and I’m excited to bring her on the blog today to share her expertise and guidance on entrepreneurship and when it’s time to bring in a business coach to help with your strategies and offering!

Q: What would you say most businesses bring you in to help? What is the problem they hire you to help solve?

A: Women solopreneurs who are the face of their business or brand when she wants to play bigger, but feels like she’s lacking clarity, courage and concrete steps to grow her business. She doesn’t know what her secret sauce is yet and hasn’t developed a signature offer around that.

Q: When is the right time for a business to bring in a business consultant?

A: The number one phrase that I hear from the women who come to me is “I’m feeling stuck.” They have an idea that they want to implement, but maybe based on advice they’ve been given previously (or lack thereof), they don’t feel confident in exploring that avenue even though it may be authentic to them & their brand. When you are feeling this, it’s time to bring in a business consultant.

So, we start there at the core of what it is that you actually want versus what you feel like you’re supposed to build so that you have the confidence, courage and clarity to make those bold business decisions without second guessing your ability or worthiness and know that people will pay for what it is that you offer.

Q: JDP hired you to help get clarity on her services. What is your advice for business owners looking to revamp their offering?

A: It doesn’t work if it doesn’t work for you.

Trying to force a fit or make something happen just because you feel like it’s the right path to go down as opposed to the path that you have made an intentional decision to go down may yield results, but they won’t be the ones you want and you may end up burnt out and overwhelmed — and we don’t want that to happen.

So, my piece of advice would be to clarify and refine your business vision and goals based on who you are authentically so that you don’t have to pretend in order to profit. And, more importantly, hire someone who is going to help you articulate that vision vs. just giving you a blueprint of their own.

Q: As a business owner and coach, what is your first piece of advice for other female entrepreneurs beginning their entrepreneurial journey?

A: I’ve got three:

  1. Trust the idea that you have. Trust what it is that you know you want to implement!

  2. Once you have an idea of what it is, create a plan! Do not wing it.  Make sure you strategically develop that plan so that it’s bringing in revenue, because that’s why you’re in business.

  3. Develop a daily revenue routine! Come up with income-producing activities that streamline your day-to-day operations so that you can build from a place of overwhelm vs. overflow.

And throughout all of this as well, asking yourself the questions:

  • Is this what you want to do?

  • Is it contributing to your bottom line?

  • Is it ultimately bringing you the fulfillment and freedom that you wanted from this business in the first place?

Q: How does one qualify to work with you? What does the process look like?

A: We start a chemistry sales call to see if we are the right fit, then we go from there. As mentioned earlier, it’s always so important to ensure you are working with someone who can help you articulate your vision and who you can work with authentically!

I’ve repositioned my brand and services here at JDP (more than once!) but that’s not a bad thing! It’s helped me to gain clarity on what I’m offering and also help me more accurately target and identify what my clients need, too. Having a clear understanding of my services also allows me to draw the boundaries of my business!

Rashida has been an incredible asset to my business in helping me understand my model and offering. If you’re in need of some clarity in your service offering, be sure to book a chemistry sales call with her or visit her website for more info!
