My favorite Women-Owned Sustainable Businesses [Earth Day Edition]

I’ve been involved in the community of businesses small and large here in Minnesota for a long time and I’ve had the pleasure of interacting and working with many of them! In honor of Earth Day coming up on Monday, April 22, 2024, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite sustainable businesses!

Each of these businesses is eco-friendly in their own way: practicing sustainable methods of operating their businesses and creating/offering sustainable products for your everyday lifestyle. Plus, they are all women-owned and -run!

I’m excited to spread the word about these incredible organizations who make a difference:

Haven Nail Salon

This women-owned nail salon is leading the charge on being an eco-friendly space by offering waterless services. Haven Nail Salon has 1 location in Minneapolis but it’s a beautiful space and they have friendly staff and amazing services.

"Did you know a traditional pedicure uses about 10 to 15 gallons of water per service? By eliminating the water soak, our single studio will save thousands of gallons of water per year and we are mighty darn proud of that."

Tare Market

Owner Amber is on a mission to teach and empower everyone to have a waste-free lifestyle with the first MN zero-waste and refill shop, Tare Market. They have two locations — one in Nokomis and one in Northeast Minneapolis. Shop this woman-owned and -operated business for sustainable brands and help the earth by embracing a zero-waste lifestyle!

"For every product sold online, Tare Market works with Ecologi to plant a tree in an area of the world devastated by deforestation."

Burn Boss Studios

With sustainability in mind, Emma from Burn Boss creates eco-friendly candles using second hand vessels filled with scented, clean-burning and plastic-free, soy and coconut wax blend. Once it's all done, you can get your vessel re-filled at Burn Boss or reuse it for something else!

"We believe in providing a safe work environment that supports long-term employment, education and training for employees. Within our factory we have developed a women's co-op that helps uplift women through work and opportunity. By providing training, skills and employment for women we are building stronger and more equitable communities."

WAY the Label

Design + creative duo Heidi + Regena take sustainable style and fashion to new heights with WAY the Label. This brand designs modern, ready-to-wear clothing made of sustainable and ethical materials. Being eco-friendly in your fashion is IN and fast fashion is OUT.

“We aim to be sustainable in everything we do here at WAY the Label – we only use secondhand, deadstock and vintage fabrics, we save 100% of our scraps to make our accessories like scrunchies, pouches, and more, and we produce only small-batch collections including a limited number of each staple piece for your closet. Plus, we sew everything ourselves!”

Hazel & Rose

Since its inception, Hazel & Rose has remained true to three requirements for goods carried in the shop: well made, sustainably made, and ethically made. Hazel & Rose is about recognizing that what you wear matters. How it was made, and who made it, matters. Quality matters. Beauty matters.

Evergreen Collective

Founder Taylor started Evergreen Collective to make sustainability simple & more accessible. In our busy lives we shouldn't have to spend extra time sourcing home essentials that align with our values.
