A Day In The Life of a Serial Entrepreneur
The habits I’ve established in my years as a business owner have helped me feel supported, organized, and in control of my time and energy. Not every day is perfect, but I fully believe with the right routine and a lot of consistency, you can change your life. Curious how I spend my days? Here’s a day in the life of a serial entrepreneur:
Make your first minutes count (but be real about it)
During the workweek, I get up at quarter to seven, make my bed and grab my phone. Yes, I said it – I’m not going to pretend that I wake up and meditate for an hour because that’s not me. Mark Cuban says that successful people make their bed in the mornings because the sense of accomplishment has a snowball effect on the rest of your day. So, I make my bed, arrange my pillows and make sure everything is in its place. I also have an office space in my bedroom, so a clean esthetic is really important to me.
I spend a couple of minutes on my phone checking product sales, my family group chat, and scrolling the ‘gram. Nothing crazy or time-consuming, I’m just looking for updates.
Next, I always get dressed for my workday. I do this every day unless I’m deadly sick, accessorizing with jewelry to match my business-casual outfit. Jewelry is like my armor, when I accessorize, I feel ready to conquer the day ahead.
Then, I’ll drink a bunch of water, make a green smoothie for me and my husband and sit on my balcony to enjoy the morning.
If you haven’t noticed, I love a good routine and it turns out there’s an app for that – I use Routinery. While I’m on my balcony, enjoying my smoothie, I check off the steps in my routine so far:

Next, I go to my desk and make sure everything is organized for my day. My desk is pristine, everything has a home. This helps me focus on my work because I’m not distracted by clutter or looking for things because they aren’t in the correct spot.
I’m a huge believer in using strategy and prioritization, which is why I spend about 10-12 minutes looking at my priorities for the day before I ever touch my work. I have a navy-colored, spiral-bound Fringe journal where I list the priorities sorted by client, and color-coded by type of work. (I’ll call it Type-A, it sounds healthier than neurotic). There’s something really satisfying about crossing things off of an actual to-do list, so I’m a huge believer in going analog with my daily planning and keeping the full-scope plan in a digital program like Trello.
Visualize Your Success
This next step is important, and I know very few people who actually do it: I spend five minutes thinking about my overall vision. I’m in a business group that had us do a 5-year future visualization for our businesses. I turned mine into a book that sits on my desk. I flip through the pages to remind myself of where I’m going. This helps me stay focused on my ‘why’ and remind myself of my guiding principles.
I then spend about 20 minutes listening to book summaries using the app called Headway. The app summarizes popular books complete with key takeaways. This gives me a little inspiration before I begin my workday.
Get to work…with an optimized plan
Then I do my work based on my plan. Based on my chronotype, I’m the most productive in the mornings before 2:00 pm. This is why I’ve set my days up to do my best work in the morning. I highly recommend this free quiz to determine your chronotype so you can optimize your days based on your sleep patterns and natural energy cycles.
Another key to my work optimization is how I plan my days. I have certain days every week that are dedicated to specific clients. This helps me stay focused and move projects forward with consistency. I also have dedicated days and times when I take meetings. This strategy keeps me from code-switching because it’s exhausting and I’m more productive when my work is organized by the type of task.
Take Breaks
I always take a break to have lunch on my balcony, listen to a podcast, and check in with my husband. Sometimes I’ll get a lunch workout in or take a long walk in the middle of the day – if I don’t do it then, I’ll make sure to get some movement at the end of my workday.
When I’m done with lunch, I finish up any remaining work tasks, then toward the end of the day, I review my progress. I’ll check on what I’ve completed, cross items off in my journal, and update my progress in Trello. I then make a plan for tomorrow’s workday and if there’s anything I didn’t get done, I add it to tomorrow’s list.
Wind Down
I’ll often end my workday with either a workout or a long walk. I completely unplug from my work by around 6 pm and do not check my email until the following day. This boundary helps me stay focused when I’m working and wind down from my day.
Every evening is a little different, but I usually (shamelessly) unwind with Animal Crossing for creative relief. My husband and I then eat dinner and might watch a show. I’m a huge fan of baths, so I usually take one every night while listening to music or a podcast. I’ll then read in bed and be asleep by 9:30/10 pm.
This routine has worked for me because it’s equal parts structured and flexible – it allows me to get the most out of my day while staying focused and connected. Each day is a little different, but with the right routine, your business (and your life) can feel both focused and free.
